How to Deal with BOTOX Bruising
February 28, 2023
Many people are a little surprised to hear that dentists are often experts in administering BOTOX. This is because it’s more than just a cosmetic treatment; it’s also used to address teeth grinding and some other common oral health issues that can come from overactive jaw muscles.
BOTOX is fairly safe, but one of the most common side effects is a little bit of bruising. This isn’t unusual or problematic, but it can definitely be a little bit uncomfortable for patients. If you want to know how to handle BOTOX bruising, here’s a guide that may give you a little bit of information.
Why Does BOTOX Bruising Happen?
BOTOX bruising usually happens as a result of a broken blood vessel. Blood vessels are numerous and hard to see from the outside, so even experienced BOTOX professionals may accidentally puncture one during the treatment. When this happens, blood leaks into the surrounding tissue, creating a visible bruise.
There are also a few things that can make bruising more likely. Taking blood-thinning medications, drinking alcohol, or exercising directly before or after the treatment can potentially cause bruising if you aren’t careful.
How Long Does BOTOX Bruising Take to Heal?
Every case is a little different, but for the most part, BOTOX bruises will appear within the first few days after the procedure, and will last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
How to Deal with BOTOX Bruising?
If you want to look your best as quickly as possible, there are a few things you can do to heal a little bit more quickly:
- Cold Compresses can constrict blood vessels, which can bring down swelling or help bruises heal a little faster.
- Keep your head elevated to prevent excess blood flow to your face.
- Take it easy. Refrain from rigorous exercise for a few days after your treatment.
- Avoid risk factors that can increase your chances of developing bruises. Refrain from drinking immediately before or after the treatment, and avoid blood-thinning pain relievers like Asprin.
BOTOX bruising is completely normal, and even if your aftercare isn’t perfect, you should still recover from the treatment fairly quickly. After the bruises fade, you’ll be able to look and feel better than you ever have before!
